1981: Nigeria ascoltata in Francia

dal gruppo fmdxITALY
Ciao a tutti,
potrebbe provare a puntare l'antenna a sud.

hi folks,

You may be interested to know that back in 1981 a french DXer, Michel
Dubernat, at Biganos (45N,1W) received FM from Nigeria via evening
TEP [1].
This was from the 88.6 MHz tx at Jos (10N, 9E) sometime between 2030
and 2300 UTC on 16 October 1981, when he also received Nigerian TV on
chE3 (55-61 MHz) and chE4 (62-68 MHz).

The latitude of the path midpoint (27N) is near the peak ionisation
of the northern equatorial anomaly.
This reception appears to be correlated with the F2 critical
frequency over southern Europe at 18 UTC.
The data from the ionosonde at El Arenosillo, Spain (37N, 7W) shows
that 16th Oct had the highest F2 critical frequency at 18 UTC of any
day during the 1981 autumnal equinox.
No significant Es was recorded over El Arenosillo on the evening of
16th Oct, 1981.

The analog of this path for Australia is receiving southern Thai or
Philippines FM at latitudes close to the Tropic of Capricorn.

regards,

Tony Mann,

Perth
